Making The World A Better Place

I know, this blog feels like something that you would hear at a beauty pageant, but indulge me. I have noticed a lot of headlines this past year alone that have made me stop and think, "What have we become and how did we get this far from our humanity?" I don't know the answers to those questions, but I do know what we can do to make life a little better even if it's just for one human being. Being a nice human being can make a difference. Being someone who cares can move mountains. You may not see it, but I do. I see everything has a consequence.
I'm about to list off a bunch of things you can do and I need you to just read them and think longterm. Think ripple effect. What you do today, can and will determine the future of this world.
•Smile more at people
•Hold the door open for those behind you, even if it's inconvenient for you
•Say thank you to those who don't hear it enough
•Don't disguise negative nancy statements as "just being real"
•Encourage nice behavior and voice your disapproval of the opposite
•Speak up for those that can't
•Realize that everyone has an opinion and that opinion is their reality, nothing and nobody can change it but them
•Give out more hugs
•Talk to people who seem lonely
•Listen without any judgement
•Understand even if you don't agree
•Respect other people's needs
•Be there and show up
•Offer a helping hand to those who are too afraid/proud to ask
•Donate your change to charity when you're at the register no matter how small
•Learn something new about a culture you don't know much about
•Learn more about a friend so that when they are down, you know just how to cheer them up
•Be considerate of other people's time, try to be on time
•Notice when others are struggling and act accordingly
•Don't let money come between you and a friend, friendships are eternal, not money
•Share something
•Be selfless in your giving, don't expect anything back
•Create an inspiration/motivation board and share it with others
•Write an encouraging blog
•Share an inspirational song
•Be loud about what you're passionate about
•Volunteer
•Find something productive to do instead of binging for another hour on Netflix
•Plant a tree
•Go grocery shopping for someone who can't
•Help someone put IKEA furniture together
•Reward hard work
•Look on the bright side of everything
•Listen instead of talking and you might find out more about life than you think
•Be a leader for those who would rather follow
•Make tea/coffee for someone who needs it
•Lend out a book that changed your life to someone else
•Say I love you more often
•Rise above those who would harm you
•Know that no one is perfect
•Understand that we are all trying our best
•Be nice to yourself and treat yourself with respect
•Have faith
This blog may seem altruistic, may seem impossible to fulfill, but I know that each and every one of you can follow through on most of these almost every single day. This is how you make the world a better place. You don't need to be a hero, a guy with superpowers, a celebrity, or a non-profit organization. You just need to have a little faith that what you're doing can go a long way. Even if you don't get to see it in the end. One person's actions can affect a civilization. Wrap your head around that and be a decent human being. Make your life meaningful by meaning something to someone.
