A Year You Want to Forget, But One You Will Be Happy Happened

So, this is my last post for the year of 2016. We all know the consensus on this year. It pretty much sucked. How we all came to this conclusion, I still can't comprehend. Some have told me it's because of the election, some have said it's due to all the death, and others have said all the war and unrest all over the world. I'm sure this all had to do with it, but out of all of this darkness and these strange trends, I think we will rise on the first day of 2017 as a stronger people.

If we had nothing but good things happening to us, we would never grow. There is always a silver lining in every situation. We've had so many opportunities to learn from 2016. We can either view it as the worst year ever, or we can view it as the biggest year for growth opportunities. Were you offended this year? Good, go and educate people. Were you saddened by the untimely death of a person? Okay, go donate to a charity to research a cure or help create awareness. You can even try to find the cure/start a charity yourself. Sick of corruption in politics? Work with your politicians or start your own movement. Sure, we all have the right to complain, but at a certain point, if we don't even try to fix the problem, all we're doing is adding negative energy to an already negative situation. Be the light. Be the change. Be your own tomorrow.

In other words, you don't have to be happy about what happened, but be happy that it doesn't have to be in vain. Take your rainy day and use the water to stop a drought.

Yes, we have lost legends, misplaced faith in the wrong people, had reality warped, and seen gross miscarriages of justice, but we have not lost the most important thing of all: hope

Cheesier than a pizza, right? Just because it's cheesy, doesn't mean it's false. We all hope that we get to see a better year in 2017. We all hope that we will learn and change from this past year. We hope that those lost have found peace. We hope because it's a natural instinct to human life. Hope is essential to continuing on in the world. If we didn't have any hope, what would be the reason for living? Many people without hope don't ever truly live. As long as we hold that hope close to our hearts, we have something to live for in 2017.

And that makes all the difference.

Here's to a happy and healthy New Years to all.

I'm a 28 year old girl who is a christian and an lgbtq ally, I'm a poet and I'm a realist, I'm an organizer and a mess, I'm a social media maven and I'm also an introvert.  I'm a walking contradiction, but I like to think of it as well rounded.  I've suffered from 20 or so years of depression and had more rejection than green lights, but I'm alive and I'm here to tell my story so others can benefit from my lessons.
